“Bitterly upset” Webber blows Korean GP

Posted by Tim Robson at 10:48 pm on Sunday October 24, 2010

The collective hearts of a sporting nation sunk yesterday as Mark Webber made a rare-for-2010 mistake at the worst possible moment, crashing out of the Korean GP. If not for his teammate’s almost unbelievable failure to finish, Webber’s championship would be all but over.

In a wet and wild race that almost never went ahead, second-placed Webber dropped the rear end of his Red Bull off the circuit early in the event, bottomed his car and spun into a wall. Vettel got to within sight of the finish before his Renault engine exploded.

Fernando Alonso – only five races ago 45 points adrift in the championship – swept through for the race win and the lead of the driver’s title. Webber still sits in second, but Red Bull was quick to confirm that Vettel wouldn’t be playing rear gunner to the Aussie’s title hopes, saying that “it would be wrong to ask him to do that”.

With two races to go, can Webber hang on?

    Yes he can and will!
Seb drove damn well ,maybe he should have opted for a new motor to!
The whole race was a demolition derby anyway,as they knew it would be!!
Like one of the UK commentators said they should give the win to the last car running!

Am i wrong in saying the yellow peril held them at least 5 laps too long?

Its a dog fight to the finish now, like AJ said Marks got this far the hard way.
    Webber 2010..

Yeah… I don’t think I can watch it now. It would be too depressing.

Sure, it was a bad day for Mark and the Red Bull team, the only upside for Mark was Vettel also not getting any points.

Mark has been able to put disasters behind him plenty of times, and this will be no different. He’s as tough as RSL steak and last year got 1st and 2nd in the last 2 races, while Alonso got zip.

We are behind him 100%, bring it on!

It was just 5hit from a-b but 2 rounds to go and his ice cold attitude at the moment will get him the championship for 2010.

I really, really love to see Webber get the title.. but he needs to drive with more aggression and still think defensively wise about his opponents.

Great drive and what an awesome luck for Alonso, he’s got another great chance at the next race.

As soon as i saw the crashed, the tv went off. He can still pull it back, but it wont be by any easy means. Some luck went his way with vettels engine expiring. Webber 2010

I think Webber is still in with a good chance. Interlagos should be a track suited to RedBull and not as much to Ferrari.
I would love to see Webber take the championship but i would still be happy if Fernando won it.

One person i don’t want to see win it is Vettel. Taking Mark out at Istanbul was wrong, and after the way RedBull left Mark for dead in favour of Vettel at the British GP really made me mad at Vettel.

    Anyway go Webber!!!

Webber just needs these two last victories and he has it. You won in Brazil last year, so lets see that again. Also hopefully no rain in the U.A.E.

    Go Webber!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  !!

I fast forwarded through all those laps behind the safety car & then MW did the big whoops. Off went the tele. Quite dissapointed in him actually. He’s usually fairly good in the rain & it’s a bit of an amatuer mistake he made. I hope the pressure isn’t getting to him. Sure hope he wins one of the next two races, podiums at the other & Alonso has a bad result at one of them.

    You can do it!!!

I expected Webber to crash at the Korean GP because he had never crashed on that track before. Go Vettel you can do it SEBY!
